Throughout History:
In 1978, the Townships of Blooming Grove and Burke, and the Village of Maple Bluff came together to form a joint ambulance district to provide emergency medical services (EMS) to its residents.
The development of a joint ambulance district became a necessity when the Dane County Traffic Department, which provided EMS service at the time, was absorbed into the Dane County Sheriffs Department and all ambulance service was discontinued. The Blooming Grove, Burke, Maple Bluff Ambulance District began providing service on January 1, 1979.
In 1979, about half of the 42 charter members were Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), while the other half were Registered in Crash Injury Management. Today, all members of our service are State of Wisconsin Certified at the EMT-Basic level. Our membership is comprised of volunteers, paid staff, and fire fighter/EMT interns (see link below.)
Blooming Grove, Burke, Maple Bluff EMS operates out of one station based at the Maple Bluff Fire Department. Rescue 56 is a 2001 Braun ambulance on a Ford E-450 chassis. R-56 is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our District responded to 450 calls in 2005.
